Adolescent Psychology
Adolescent psychology is the study and teaching of the
transitional period between childhood and adulthood. In our
cultural circle, this period is long, where in some
situations the identity of the adult is assigned and in the
other child. In other cultures, the transition can be abrupt
and marked in the form of various rituals.
The relatively rapid biological maturation can result in
uncertainty, both in relation to one's own body and
identity. For many, the age can be characterized by turmoil
and personality instability with crises and conflicts.
The German-American psychologist Erik H. Erikson sees it
all as an expression of a test and a search for identity,
which can in many cases result in conflicts, especially in
relation to parents and authority figures. However,
mastering the problems is necessary for the adult's identity
to be developed. A more independent and reflective attitude
is also under development, which leads to values and norms
being critically assessed. Parents can be subjected to
serious tests, their views being subjected to trial and
criticism, while changing contact forms. Smaller groups and
"clicks" are of great importance and many speak of a special
youth culture. Young people in Western culture belong to a
marginal group that is subjected to strong pressure with
