Evaluations Psychology
Assessment psychology, designation of assessments made
by lay professionals and experts based on judgment, whether
they come in the form of forecasts, grading, diagnosis or
assessment of probabilities.
People often have greater confidence in their own
assessments and imagine that they are based on more complex
"overall assessments" by means of gut feeling
and intuition than what actually turns out to be the case.
The study of assessments can be of great practical value,
because assessments often form the basis for decision-making
in economics, medicine, politics and planning. It is often
the " heuristics " or simplified methods, people make use of
and the distortions (biases) that can affect the
result of the evaluation, which is the subject of such
study.
The field of judgment and decision-making, which in
English is called judgment and decision making, has
evolved strongly since about 1970, not least thanks to the
efforts of Israeli-American psychologists Daniel Kahneman and
Amos Tversky.
